TGCN CEU Requirements
To fulfill the Annual Professional Development Hours requirement, individuals must complete 10 hours of professional development annually, with all hours directly related to coaching competencies listed below in the closing paragraph. The hours awarded for continuing education are commensurate with the program attended, ensuring alignment with the depth, duration, and relevance of the learning to professional coaching standards. Participation in TGCN Webinars earns one CEU hour, while attending all three sessions of the TGCN Book Club provides three CEU hours. In-house programs award hours proportional to the program offered, and attending a full-day Coaching Research Conference grants seven CEU hours. Additionally, reading books related to coaching competencies can earn two hours per book, provided a 500-word summary is submitted, with a limit of two books per year.
For webinars, conferences, and book study groups offered by The Global Coaching Network (TGCN), participants must submit a 200-word summary detailing the application of knowledge gained to their coaching practice, along with documentation of the hours completed. This ensures that learning is not only absorbed but also translated into actionable strategies that enhance coaching effectiveness. For any other continuing education units (CEUs) not offered by TGCN, participants are required to provide a more in-depth 500-word summary. This summary should comprehensively outline the key learnings and explicitly describe how the information will be integrated into their coaching practice. This dual-tiered approach to summaries ensures that professional development remains relevant, practical, and aligned with TGCN's evidence-based coaching standards, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in coaching.
Competencies
The Global Coaching Network (TGCN) competencies, rooted in academic research, provide the foundation for TGCN's continuing education requirements. These competencies emphasize evidence-based frameworks that outline the behaviors, skills, and approaches essential for effective coaching. The competencies include building the coaching relationship, which focuses on rapport and trust building, empathy, emotional intelligence, interpersonal sensitivity, and mindfulness in the coaching presence. Psychological safety and support are critical, involving the creation of a safe environment and fostering resilience. Communication skills such as active listening, powerful and Socratic questioning, curiosity, non-judgmental inquiry, feedback, and reflection are also emphasized. Cognitive and behavioral techniques play a significant role, including goal setting and planning, collaborative goal development, actionable strategies, challenging and reframing, and facilitating cognitive-behavioral change. Facilitating self-awareness and reflection through cognitive and behavioral awareness, reflective practices, and promoting insight is another vital area. Additionally, systems thinking and contextual awareness, including understanding context and change management skills, are essential for effective coaching. Lastly, ethics and professionalism are paramount, encompassing professional boundaries and ethics, supervision, and cultural sensitivity. These competencies collectively ensure a robust foundation for coaching excellence.
